Superior Couriers has been moving pallets, cartons and satchels around North Queensland since 1990. Running 28 vehicles out of its own depot, it is the largest privately owned transport company in Townsville.<\/span><\/p>

Owner Rob Finn bought the business two years ago, after more than 30 years in logistics. There is no HR function and no internal recruiter, so every driver vacancy lands with the owner alongside running the business.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Challenge<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

With 28 vehicles on the road and a vehicle only earning when there is someone in the seat, Superior Couriers needed to hire several times a year, and neither of the usual options were working.<\/span><\/p>

  • Agencies sent the wrong people. <\/b>Several recruitment agencies had put candidates forward over the years and the quality was consistently poor.<\/span><\/li>
  • The fees did not match the result. <\/b>Percentage-based agency fees were not justified by what came back, so the business stopped using agencies and went back to hiring in-house.<\/span><\/li>
  • Hiring in-house was expensive too. <\/b>Advertising a single position on Seek cost around $1,000 before a single application had been read.<\/span><\/li>
  • The work landed on the owner. <\/b>Writing the ad, screening applicants and building a shortlist all sat with the person already running a 31-person business.<\/span><\/li>
  • Turnover restarted the whole process. <\/b>When a hire did not stay, the business had to pay the full advertising cost a second time and start again.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    The Solution<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Recruit Shop became the primary recruitment source for Superior Couriers from November 2024, covering courier drivers, truck-licence drivers and warehouse roles across both Townsville and Cairns. Each role was briefed in a single email and needed no further time from the business until the shortlist arrived.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

    Ads written specifically for Superior Couriers replaced the generic agency advertising that had been returning poor applicants, and the business credits that ad quality as the reason the calibre of candidate changed. Marketing across the major job boards, social media and the Recruit Shop candidate database pulled as many as 120 applications for a single driver role, with candidates being sent to Superior Couriers within a week of the campaign go-live date.<\/span><\/p>

    Every applicant was screened and shortlisted, so the business only ever saw people worth interviewing and went straight to the final interview. A fixed $2,995 + GST fee, the Money-Back Promise and the Employee Guarantee removed the risk of paying twice for a role that did not stick.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

    Recruit Shop has filled 17 roles for Superior Couriers since November 2024, with every campaign run for the business resulting in a hire.<\/span><\/p>

    • 17 hires at a 100% fill rate, across courier drivers, truck-licence drivers, warehouse and logistics roles in both Townsville and Cairns<\/span><\/li>
    • The majority of those roles filled within 30 days<\/span><\/li>
    • Around 100 hours a year of owner time returned to running the business<\/span><\/li>
    • Underperforming staff inherited with the business replaced by hires with better attitudes, lifting both productivity and customer service<\/span><\/li>
