KIN Group is a collection of businesses operating under the one umbrella. KIN Finance provides mortgage broking, KIN Real Estate covers property management, and KIN Property handles defects & settlements for property developers. The group’s newest arm, Conscious Kinship, runs one-day events and weekend wellbeing retreats. With staff spread across Melbourne, Brisbane & Sydney, KIN Group hires regularly for a wide mix of roles.

KIN Group has worked with Recruit Shop for more than two years. Marne Puls, Executive Assistant to Director Kerren McNamara, was hired through a Recruit Shop campaign herself, and now manages the group’s hiring with Recruit Shop from the client side.

The Challenge

Hiring for four businesses means a steady stream of very different roles, and not much time to screen for any of them.

The calibre of applicants: when KIN Group advertised roles itself, plenty of CVs came in but very few were suitable. Someone had to go through every one to find the handful worth interviewing.
Good candidates withdrawing their application: every shortlisted candidate is asked to record a video on how they’d contribute to KIN Group’s three-year vision. It helps the directors see the person behind the CV, but some candidates didn’t want to be on camera, and some video requests were landing in junk folders.
A lean team: with hiring coordinated through one person, the group couldn’t afford to spend hours on unsuitable applications.

The Solution

Recruit Shop were engaged to advertise and screen for roles across KIN Group’s businesses, and the process was seamless. KIN Group approved each advert, then Recruit Shop ran the campaign and sent through the candidates worth considering. Suitable candidates were then asked to submit a short video of themselves. Directors and general managers only saw candidates once they’d submitted a video, so their time went to the interview decision and nothing else.

To stop good candidates withdrawing because of the video requirement, Recruit Shop adapted their follow-up process to encourage video submissions. Once a video request went out, Recruit Shop followed up with candidates by phone, encouraged them not to overthink it, and reminded them to check their messages if the request hadn’t come through. That extra nudge kept good candidates from falling through the gaps.

Recruit Shop’s flat fee gave KIN Group a far more affordable option than traditional agencies, which charge a percentage of salary.

The Results

2+ years with Recruit Shop: across finance, real estate and property roles.
8 roles filled: including permanent roles and casual property staff in Victoria and NSW.
Most roles filled within 18 days which is over 60% faster than the Australian average time to hire
Bigger pools of suitable candidates: more shortlisted candidates completed their screening videos because Recruit Shop explained the purpose of the video, followed up and encouraged each one to take part.
Better calibre on hard-to-fill roles: stronger candidates for roles like commission-only mortgage brokers than traditional avenues such as Seek or LinkedIn delivered.
Hours of screening removed: KIN Group only reviews the candidates Recruit Shop believes are worth considering.
