Writing Job Ads That Cut Through the Noise: Stand Out and Attract Top Talent

14/07/2025/in Recruitment Info and Support /by Merven

In today’s competitive job market, your job ad is more than just a list of duties—it’s your first impression. With candidates scrolling through hundreds of posts every day, a generic description simply won’t do. If you want your open role to stand out, attract the right talent, and truly represent your brand, you need to write job ads that cut through the noise. Here’s how.

Make sure you read to the end for a FREE job advertisement template!

1. Lead With Your Why

Start your ad with the unique mission or purpose of your business. Why does your company exist? What positive impact do you strive for? Candidates are drawn to roles that connect with something bigger than just a paycheque.

Example:
“At [Your Business], we’re passionate about helping small businesses grow with innovative tech—and we want you to be a part of that mission!”

2. Highlight Your Employer Value Proposition (EVP)

Your EVP is what makes working for you different. Mention perks, culture, career development, flexibility, and anything else you offer beyond the basics.

Example:
“Enjoy flexible hours, remote work options, and a creative, growth-focused team that values your ideas.”

3. Be Clear, Honest, and Specific

  • List key responsibilities and day-to-day activities—but keep it concise!
  • Clearly state must-have skills and nice-to-haves.
  • Avoid jargon or buzzwords that can confuse or scare off great candidates.

Tip: Use short paragraphs and bullet points for easy scanning.

4. Sell the Benefits, Not Just the Demands

Focus on what success looks like in your team:

  • Will they lead projects?
  • Get mentored?
  • Work with exciting clients?

Show how this role will help them learn, grow, and achieve their goals.

5. Showcase Your Brand Personality

Let your authentic voice shine. If your business is quirky, bold, creative, or particularly supportive, use language that reflects that.

Example:
“Bring your passion and a sense of humour—we take our work seriously but never ourselves!”

6. Include a Call to Action

Tell candidates exactly how to apply, what to submit, and what happens next. Encourage them to reach out with any questions.

Example:
“Ready to join our adventure? Send your CV, a short note on why you’re excited, and your favourite value to [email].”

7. Keep It Inclusive

Use inclusive language that welcomes all backgrounds and experiences. Add a diversity and inclusion statement, if appropriate, to show you value diversity in your team.

Conclusion: The Right Words Attract the Right People

A standout job ad is authentic, clear, and full of your energy as a business. By focusing on your mission, EVP, and what makes your company and role unique, you’ll attract talent excited to help you succeed—not just applicants looking for any job
